Ministry of Foreign Affairs announcement on Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias’ participation in the online Ministerial meeting of the Alliance for Multilateralism (24 February 2021)

Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias participated on Wednesday, 24 February, in the online Ministerial meeting of the countries of the Alliance for Multilateralism. In his intervention, the Minister underscored that the most crucial issues of our time transcend borders, as has been clearly emphasized by COVID-19. The same holds true for climate change. In this regard, Mr. Dendias recalled that Greece undertook the initiative to convene – in June 2019, in Athens – an International Conference entitled “The Impacts of Climate Change on Cultural Heritage,” and he announced that Greece is prepared to host a High-Level meeting on the same issue, as soon as the pandemic permits. The Minister also highlighted the need to ensure respect for human rights and freedom of expression in the new digital age, which offers significant benefits, but also huge potential risks. He stressed that the global dimension of the new potential and challenges requires global solutions that take into account and ensure that the rights of all people around the world are respected and that no one is, indeed, left behind.
