Economy staring at recession again
The Greek state may be able to service its debt and pay pensions and salaries to civil servants in April. However, the limited progress in negotiations between the government and the official creditors on the conclusion of the economic policy program increases uncertainty, reduces credit availability and adversely affects domestic demand despite less austerity. The economic damage has increased the risk of recession.

Five Greek Villas You’d Love to Live In
When Greek architects have inspiration, unique houses to cities, islands and villages, even in the middle of nowhere turn into a haven of serenity and luxury. This is what happens when aesthetics align with imagination and the unique Greek landscape… Small architectural wonders. Which is your favorite? Antiparos The design of the house is a dual response to the particular topography of the site and the rural domestication techniques that in the past shaped the raw “Cycladic island” landscape. In the past, dry-rubble stone walls domesticated the land for agricultural purposes and were the most prominent man-made interventions in the landscape. The walls retained earth and transformed a steep topography into a series of arable plateaus. Today, the Cycladic islands are being reshaped by a very different force: The demand for holiday homes. The design uses the precedent of earth-retaining stone walls to create an artificial landscape that is both rural and domestic in use. Syros Situated in the island of Syros, this summer house hosts a couple and their guests. The design process was defined by the clients’ desire to maximize the view of the Plagia bay. The main intention was to unify the various spaces of the house under one roof facing the Aegean, without creating massive volume, thus resulting in a deconstructed rectangle with massive openings from all sides. The entrance is situated in the back, following a gentle descent through continuous miniature courtyards, planted with local aromatic herbs. The main volume houses the common areas, whereas the slightly higher volume, covered in local masonry houses the couple’s private area. The volumes are set next to each other, under a united roof slab, facing the magnificent view of the bay. The design of the guesthouses varied significantly, as the clients’ desire was the creation of spaces that could be both private and with constant access to the pool and outdoor space. The four guesthouses are situated in opposing parts of the site, gaining distinct characteristics: the ones closer to the house are intended for close friends and visitors whereas the ones under the master bedroom enjoy a private entrance and can easily be rented. Corfu The “Skolix” houses are situated in a lush landscape of forest, flower and vegetable gardens and olive groves. Their designs grow out of the earth, and as they gently twist turn, carefully framed and breathtaking vistas open up towards the vast horizon. Sifnos The two-story residence and the guest house, the linear pool that disappears in the horizon, the big yard; the meeting point of owners and visitors: The residence in Sifnos, with its snow-white volumes and rigid geometry combines grandiosity with the minimalism characteristic of Aegean islands and dominates the landscape without imposing. Furniture from Bali and creations of famous modern artists have the first say in the interior and contrast harmoniously against the white bamboo and wood surfaces. Mykonos Big spaces with delicate details and unhindered view to the sea from an environment that harmoniously combines luxury with a bohemian feeling. The first floor of the residence hosts the bedrooms and on the ground floor small sitting corners with a special character from the big living room. Shaded verandas also offer ideal conditions for relaxation, while different versions of it are suggested by the sitting areas and the gazebo next to the pool. Relaxation reaches its peak in the spa of the basement, where the secret communication with the poll surprises. Earthy shades, natural materials and ethnic objects add to the personality of the space while keeping aesthetic purity intact.

Conspiracy of the Cells of Fire Members Stop Hunger Strike
A bill completed by Justice Minister Nikos Paraskevopoulos aiming at improving Greece’s prison system via decongesting Greece’s overcrowded prisons and foreseeing house arrest instead of detention in specific cases has caused a fierce reaction from prosecutors. There is a fear the bill could lead to the uncontrolled release of inmates, but has cheered convicts. On the contrary the bill was welcomed by 22 imprisoned members of Conspiracy of the Cells of Fire urban guerrilla group who issued a statement yesterday saying they were stopping a hunger strike after 32 days. The 22 were satisfied by a provision included in the new bill allowing relatives of convicts who are implicated in offenses to be put under house arrest rather than kept in custody. In their statement, the convicts said they looked forward to the swift release of the mother and girlfriend of one of the jailed convicts, Gerasimos Tsakalos, who have been detained on terrorism charges. On its behalf, the prosecutors’ union said the prison bill, which was submitted to the Greek Parliament last week, is moving in the wrong direction. Mr. Paraskevopoulos, though, has defended the bill which is also aiming at the abolition of the Domokos high-security (Type-C) prison in central Greece. As he said, overcrowding in Greek jails is intense and must be addressed. Clashes between anarchists and police outside Athens’ Polytechnic Scool Yesterday evening April 4, minor clashes erupted between members of the anti-establishment movement and police forces outside Athens’ Polytechnic School, after a demonstration in solidarity with the hunger strikers. Some 20 men burned trash cans and set road blocks around the historic building, while a riot police squad arrived on the scene. Two people were arrested and faced prosecutors earlier this morning.

Greek Productive Reconstruction Min: SYRIZA Government Must Be One of Progressive Reversals
“Either our government will be a government of huge rifts and progressive reversals or it will not have a future” stated Productive Reconstruction, Greek Environment and Energy Minister Panagiotis Lafazanis in an interview with Saturday newspaper Agora. The minister underlined that the government will not make a single step back from its commitments not for reasons of in-party pressure, but because such a retreat will mean a real “waterloo” for the government and mostly for the country. Lafazanis said that the “institutions” and mostly the German establishment, face with dogmatic prejudice the government and the country as a half-colony “They are not interested in the context of our proposals but that it comes from a radical left government that wants the country to be independent and to have a progressive course. That’s what bothers them up to hysteria” he said and warned that if the deep conservative and neoliberal Europe continues on the same course and does not change thoroughly it will confront decadence and dissolution. Referring to his recent visit to Moscow, Lafazanis estimated that it may open a new historic chapter not only in the energy but also in the economic and political relations of Greece and Russia which, as he said, it is possible to be sealed during Tsipras-Putin’s meeting on April 8 in Moscow. Finally, the minister reiterated that privatizations, particularly of strategic companies and excellent properties will not take place. (source: ana-mpa)
