Foreign Minister Poposki: Macedonia Saved Schengen

If the Republic of Macedonia had not closed its borders with Greece to migrants, Schengen would have collapsed. At the same time, every single country would have had to introduce border controls, stated Macedonia Foreign Minister Nikola Poposki, reported Die Welt, cited by BGNES. According to Poposki, it would have been better if this had been done by another country but it became imperative that Macedonia do so. Poposki requested an exchange of information with countries in the EU in combating terrorism. “It is a great disadvantage that we are not considered equal partners. But this is necessary if the traffic of terrorists along refugee routes is to be stopped. In order for this to be prevented, we need to increase the exchange of information with the countries that are not part of the EU but are part of the refugee route,” added Poposki.
