Pope Francis: Northern Macedonia is Example of Being a Bridge Between the East and the West
During his first visit to Northern Macedonia, Pope Francis tried to encourage their efforts to integrate into the European institutions after the name change decides the decades-long dispute with Greece, BTA reported. At a meeting with the country's leadership, Francis praised the multicultural environment in northern Macedonia and said that the country is example of being a bridge between the East and the West showed that there could be peaceful coexistence. ,,These traits are very important for greater integration with the countries of Europe'', he said. ,,I hope that this integration will develop in a way that will benefit the entire region of the Western Balkans, respecting diversity and fundamental rights, "said Francis. After landing at the airport in Skopje, Francis arrived with Volksgagen Jeta for talks with outgoing President Gjorge Ivanov. His ten-hour visit will include a prayer in Mother Teresa's memorial, as well as masses for the small Catholic community in the country with a population of 2.1 million people. Viktor Dimovski, state secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Northern Macedonia, told reporters Monday that the visit was historic and is at a crucial moment when northern Macedonia wants to join the EU and NATO. The country has been a candidate for EU membership since 2005, but is still awaiting the start of EU membership talks. Once the name dispute has already been resolved, northern Macedonia hopes to get a clear signal for the start of accession talks in June. Macedonia expects to become the thirteenth member of NATO by the end of this year.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Markos Bolaris meets with the United States Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom, Samuel Brownback (Athens, 6 May 2019)
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Markos Bolaris today received the United States Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom, Samuel Dale Brownback, former Minister of Agriculture as well as the Governor of Kansas, in the context of the latter’s visit to Greece which, as he himself stressed, aims at forging bonds between the US and the Christian Orthodox world. The Deputy Minister welcomed the State Department’s initiative to encourage cooperation between countries that are interested in safeguarding religious freedoms and eradicating persecution based on religion, which is included, as Ambassador Brownback noted, in the political decision by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to strengthen the role of the US in the areas in question. There was an exchange of views on the situation of Christians in Middle Eastern countries, the difficult conditions that the Patriarchates of Jerusalem and Antioch face in caring for their flock and the sustainability of their functioning, as well as the pressures experienced by the Syriac Orthodox communities, the Assyrians and the Yezidi. Opportunities for cooperation were confirmed for reconstructing regions where Christian communities flourished for centuries or constitute cradles of civilisation, in countries plagued by war and terrorist attacks. Recent developments in current ecclesiastical issues, in Europe and America, were also discussed, which are also of interest to the Ecumenical Patriarchate. Ambassador Brownback informed the Deputy Minister that the 2nd Ministerial to Advance Religious Freedom will take place in Washington in July, voicing his hope that our country will again be represented on a ministerial level. In addition, he briefed the Deputy Minister that an invitation has also been sent to His All Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. The Deputy Minister assured his interlocutor that he will participate. The Deputy Minister briefed Ambassador Brownback on Greece’s actions to promote religious freedom, both domestically and abroad. The successful organisation of a two-day conference at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (29 Feb- 1 March 2019) on issues of religious and ecclesiastical diplomacy drew the attention of Mr. Brownback, in which representatives of churches and religious communities in Greece participated, with an aim to promote dialogue and submit proposals for forging an integrated strategy on the part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs related to the agenda of the two-day conference.
Special Secretary for Religious and Cultural Diplomacy Dr. Efstathios Lianos Liantis meets with the US Ambassador Geoffrey Pyatt (07 May 2019)
The Special Secretary for Religious and Cultural Diplomacy, Dr. Efstathios Lianos Liantis, met today with US Ambassador Geoffrey R. Pyatt, who congratulated him on assuming his new duties as Special Envoy for Combating Anti-Semitism and Safeguarding the Memory of the Holocaust. During the meeting, the prospect of cooperation between Greece and the US in the effort to eradicate anti-Semitism was discussed, which constitutes a top priority for both countries. In addition, they had the opportunity to exchange views related to the geopolitical role of religion and incidents of religious extremism, which have recently been observed on a global level. The observation was mutual that cooperation is required both on a political as well as an academic level, in order to shape the framework of cooperation and the content of the policies aimed at tackling intolerance and adopting the human values of religious freedom, pluralism, and respect of religious beliefs and traditions.

They’ve kept faith with the singer during a three-year period of regrouping that culminated in dropping the “and the Diamonds” suffix – it was constricting, tying her to a past in which she constructed a new persona for each record, such as the chilly American antihero of the Electra Heart album. Thus, for the new Love + Fear, she’s simply Marina. Related: 'It's a shame we don't cherish her': Marina, British pop's nearly woman Continue reading...
