Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias participated today, Monday, 1 March 2021, in the Virtual High-Level Pledging Event for the Humanitarian Situation in Yemen. The Minister underscored that Greece has been closely following the tragic developments in war-torn Yemen for the past six years, noting that Greece has repeatedly expressed its concerns over the plight of the Yemeni people and is contributing to humanitarian efforts. He also pointed to the fact that the difficult situation deteriorated further in 2020, with the alarming level of food insecurity, which, if not addressed immediately, will become an irreversible situation. In this context, Mr. Dendias referred to the humanitarian aid that has been distributed in Yemen through the European Union, as well as to the ongoing efforts of the European partners to normalize the situation in the country. Finally, the Minister highlighted that the situation in Yemen is undermining regional security in a particularly sensitive region, stressing that the missile attacks are a direct violation of international law and need to be strongly condemned. Greece firmly supports the need for a comprehensive political solution. Read the complete transcript of the Foreign Minister’s intervention here.
