Wittgenstein's Dream review – Gavin Turk mocks Freud in his own house
The Freud Museum, London Ludwig Wittgenstein was deeply sceptical about the claims of psychoanalysis. Now, Gavin Turk gently ribs its founder with an entertaining takeover of his hallowed home Sigmund Freud is probably the most famous modern scientist after Einstein. In the shop at the Freud Museum, his iconic status is all too apparent: it is full of Freud finger puppets, soft toys, framed photographs and comic-book retellings of psychoanalytic theory. But is the science this Viennese doctor founded even a real science? Not everyone would agree. Freud is due for some mild mockery, and Gavin Turk provides just that in an entertaining intervention inside this hallowed house. In Freud’s study, among the ancient Greek and Egyptian curios of the great man’s art collection, the philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein stands holding an egg in the palm of his hand. The egg is a real thing, a simple fact. Is Wittgenstein holding it or dreaming he is holding it? Or is he one of Freud’s own dreams? For the dapper-suited figure is a waxwork, frozen in space and time. Continue reading...

Migrants Stranded in Greece Try to Break into Macedonia
Migrants tried on Thursday to break into Macedonia from Greece, defying the tougher border restrictions imposed by the Macedonian authorities last week, newswires reported. About 200 migrants assaulted the barbed wire fence near the Greek border town of Idomeni and clashed with Macedonian police. Several of them ran across into Macedonia before police returned them to the Greek side of the border, AFP reported. Macedonian riot police used batons to push back the migrants who had opened a gap in the wire fence. Up to 1,500 migrants, coming mainly from Algeria, Morocco, Iran and Pakistan, have been stranded near Idomeni since last week after Macedonia restricted passage in the wake of the deadly terror attacks in Paris. Only those fleeing armed conflict in Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq are allowed to cross as they are typically being granted asylum in the EU. Some of the stranded migrants have pitched tents on the railway line that links the Greek sea port of Thessaloniki and the Macedonian capital Skopje, halting rail services on the route. Some have been protesting by refusing to eat, while others have sewn their mouths shut in protest. Macedonia imposed the new restrictions after its neighbours Serbia and Croatia said that they would turn back migrants who weren't from Syria, Iraq, or Afghanistan and were trying to cross into their territory from Macedonia to travel on to the European Union.

Frustrated migrants from countries such as Morocco, Algeria and Pakistan have tried to storm the Greek-Macedonian border, tearing down part of a barbed wire barrier and demanding to be allowed to continue their journey to northern Europe. A few ran across into Macedonia but were quickly detained by police. Slovenia, a member of Europe's Schengen zone of passport-free travel, declared it would only grant passage to those fleeing conflict in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan, and that all others deemed "economic migrants" would be sent back.
