Our methodology for the 30 most fun colleges
[University of Illinois]Joe Robbins/Stringer/Getty Images We recently released a list of the most fun colleges based on a compilation of several rankings from The Princeton Review's 2016 Best Colleges book. In order to determine the lists that were included in our ranking, we looked for categories that would show a strong social life, high student investment in athletics, lots of alcohol, and a high quality of life. Once we identified these Princeton Review categories, we inverted the lists in order to award a larger amount of points to the schools ranked higher. For example, 20 points went to the No. 1 school on a list, 19 points to the No. 2, 18 to the No. 3, and so on through No. 20, which received a single point. We then added up all the points we designated to each school to determine an overall ranking. Although no school appeared in all the lists we surveyed, every college in our top 30 was featured in two or more Princeton Review rankings. Our highest ranked school — University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign — received 90 overall points. Our lowest ranked school in the top 30 — Loyola Marymount University — received 23 points. We broke any ties in our list by giving the advantage to the school with the higher ranking in a common category, using our editorial discretion when rankings did not overlap. HERE ARE THE PRINCETON REVIEW RANKINGS WE COMPILED FOR OUR LIST: * Their Students Love These Colleges * Students Study the Least * Everyone Plays Intramural Sports * Best Athletic Facilities * Students Pack The Stadiums * Party Schools * Lots of Hard Liquor * Lots of Beer * Lots of Greek Life * College City Gets High Marks * Happiest Students * Best Quality of Life
The 30 most fun colleges in America
[Syracuse University fans]Nate Shron/Stringer/Getty Images College may be laden with papers, exams, and long nights in the library, but for many, it's also chock-full of raging parties, intense school spirit, and unforgettable memories with friends. To determine which schools have nailed the formula for fun, we looked at 12 categories from The Princeton Review's 2016 college rankings, including lists like "Party Schools" and "Lots of Beer." Since alcohol isn't the only way to have fun, we also included schools that placed on lists like "Happiest Students" and "Best Quality of Life." We then combined these rankings to determine which schools are the most fun overall. You can read the full methodology here. Based on our results, the typical "fun" school is a large public university with a strong Greek system and competitive athletics. However, several smaller schools with close-knit communities earned spots on the list as well. Read on to see which 30 schools across the US know how to have the most fun. 30. LOYOLA MARYMOUNT UNIVERSITY Loyola Marymount University/Facebook LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA Loyola Marymount's Los Angeles location puts students at the forefront of LA culture — not to mention prime access to the beach as well. The warm climate makes hiking, tanning, and enjoying the sun possible year-round. The school also has strong showings in both Greek life and community service organizations, with students eager to get involved in their community. 29. GONZAGA UNIVERSITY William Mancebo/Stringer/Getty SPOKANE, WASHINGTON Despite a rainy climate, Gonzaga students find plenty of ways to have fun, both indoors and out. During the winter, skiing and snowboarding become popular pastimes, either nearby at Mount Spokane or further away in Montana or Canada. Nothing's bigger than basketball season, however. Students race across campus and camp out for days to secure tickets, packing the McCarthey Center during every home game. 28. WABASH COLLEGE Wabash College/Facebook CRAWFORDSVILLE, INDIANA Sports are a huge part of life at Wabash College — more than half of the student body plays on one of the school's Division III athletic teams. In return, the all-male campus exudes school spirit for both NCAA and intramural games. SEE THE REST OF THE STORY AT BUSINESS INSIDER

Double Blockade Continues on Bulgaria-Greece Border
A 'counter-blockade' set up by Bulgarian transit truck drivers on the border with Greece has entered its fifth day in response to protests of Greek farmers who have kept key border crossings largely sealed off for nearly a month. All six Bulgarian border crossing points into Greece are closed as of 14:00 local time on Saturday, according to the Interior Ministry. Only vehicles transporting small children or sick people are granted passage. The counter-blockade began as a measure of retaliation to actions of Greek farmers on Tuesday. It began from Kulata-Promachonas and Ililden-Exochi, the two main border crossings for commercial trucks and tourists alike, but was then extended to the other four checkpoints on the Bulgairan side. Talks seeking a solution to the double blockade involved Transport Minister Ivaylo Moskovski, Blagoevgrad region's Governor Biser Mihaylov and Greek Ambassador to Bulgaria Dimosthenis Stoidis, alongside representatives of stranded Bulgarian truck drivers and of Greek farmers. Radio Focus quotes a representative of a Bulgarian transport businesses union as saying no agreement to lift either blockade was reached during the negotiations. Iliyan Filipov, of the Bulgarian Association of the Road Transport Union (abbreviated BASAT) said Greek farmers had reiterated an earlier proposal suggesting that Kulata-Promachonas, which has been the most severely affected border crossing, be reopened until all vehicles waiting in kilometers-long queues on both sides of the border pass freely. The latter idea was rejected by Bulgarian truck drivers, Filipov is quoted as explaining. Minister Moskovski has so far made several unsuccessful attempts at talking to representatives of farmers seeking a solution. Several Bulgarian institutions have referred the case to the EU, either calling for financial compensations for the losses incurred by transit truck drivers or urging an infringement procedure against Greece. Bulgarian tour operators report that thousands of bookings for a vacation in Greece - a typical choice of Bulgarian families planning a holiday in the spring or around the Orthodox Easter - have been withdrawn over the past few weeks due to concerns the blockade will continue longer than expected. Greek farmers, on the other hand, say they will not retreat until the government in Athens backtracks on plans for a reform to pension and taxation laws. In a statement earlier in February, the EU Commission told Novinite that the EU law doesn't give any powers to take direct action or initiate immediate sanctions with regard to the ongoing blockade.
Blockade on Bulgaria-Greece Border 'Outrageous'
Bulgaria's Transport Minister on Saturday voiced his outrage at action of Greek farmers and their intermittent blockade of the common border. The minister took part in negotiations with other Bulgarian and Greek officials and representatives of the protesting farmers. Talks, however, did not result in a decision to end the blockade. Moskovski explained the border was open on the Greek side, but they could not promise to end the blockade and to refrain from renewing their action. Asked by media outlets whether Sofia should cut ties with Athens as a result, he retorted, angrily: "We should cut everything". "I have never seen such mockery toward Bulgaria," mass circulation daily 24 Chasa and Focus News Agency quote him as saying. According to 24 Chasa, Moskovski asserted he had taken with him enough clothes to say on the border until the blockade is lifted. Bulgarian transit truck drivers earlier this week started a "counter-blockade" that gradually extended to all border crossing points with Greece, in response to the protest of Greek farmers, who say they will not withdraw their tractors unless the Athens government abandons plans for pension and taxation reforms.

Cameron names referendum date as Gove leans towards Brexit – live
* Cameron will put ‘heart and soul’ into staying in EU after sealing deal * Gove poised to join campaign to take Britain out of EU * Cabinet will meet on Saturday morning * David Cameron’s EU deal: what he wanted and what he got 1.11pm GMT Glaringly at odds with the insistence of David Cameron (and notably, Theresa May) that Britain’s security considerations are better served by remaining in the EU, Gove says: Far from providing security in an uncertain world, the EU’s policies have become a source of instability and insecurity. Razor wire once more criss-crosses the continent, historic tensions between nations such as Greece and Germany have resurfaced in ugly ways and the EU is proving incapable of dealing with the current crises in Libya and Syria. This chance may never come again in our lifetimes, which is why I will be true to my principles and take the opportunity this referendum provides to leave an EU mired in the past and embrace a better future. 1.06pm GMT The Justice Secretary, Michael Gove, has released a statement explaining why he will be backing a vote for the UK to leave the EU. His starting point is simple, he says: I believe that the decisions which govern all our lives, the laws we must all obey and the taxes we must all pay should be decided by people we choose and who we can throw out if we want change. If power is to be used wisely, if we are to avoid corruption and complacency in high office, then the public must have the right to change laws and Governments at election time. But our membership of the European Union prevents us being able to change huge swathes of law and stops us being able to choose who makes critical decisions which affect all our lives. Laws which govern citizens in this country are decided by politicians from other nations who we never elected and can’t throw out. Continue reading...
