More than 2,000 people have been evacuated from the Greek Island of Evia by sea as the European Union mobilises more assistance to fight wildfires which are raging across Greece. Devastating blazes have torn through the island, northeast of Athens, destroying thousands of hectares of land and a number of houses and businesses. Meanwhile, a blaze in the northern suburbs of Athens has begun to subside. Temperatures have risen to 45 degrees Celsius in Greece as Europe suffers its worst heatwave in decades.
