The Special Envoy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Combating Anti-Semitism and Safeguarding the Memory of the Holocaust, Dr. E. Lianos Liantis, meets with His All Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew

The Special Envoy for Combating Anti-Semitism and Safeguarding the Memory of the Holocaust, Dr. Efstathios Lianos Liantis, met with His All Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, in view to the Patriarch's forthcoming visit to the Auschwitz concentration camp in order to lead the March of the Living on 2 May. His All Holiness blessed the mission to combat all anti-Semitic stereotypes and stressed the need for cooperation between bodies of Christendom and Judaism, which the Ecumenical Throne has pursued throughout his prelature, through interfaith dialogue and many other initiatives for joint action. In fact, the Patriarch stressed that he is willing to undertake coordinating actions throughout Christendom in order to eradicate the social scourge of anti-Semitism and to safeguard the commitment to combat every form of prejudice and persecution in the name of religion. During the March of the Living, approximately 10,000 young people from around the world will walk the 3.2-kilometre distance between the Auschwitz and Birkenau concentration camps, to honour the memory of those who perished in the Holocaust and to issue a call to combat anti-Semitism. The main event of this year’s March is dedicated to the memory of the Greek Jews who perished during the Holocaust. For this purpose, a Greek section of the Auschwitz Museum will be inaugurated by the Ecumenical Patriarch and the President of the Hellenic Parliament in the memory of Greek Jews sacrificed during the war.
