A ship with about 200 irregular migrants on board which was located earlier on Tuesday off the coast of Chania in Crete, Greece, was led by the Coast Guard to the port of Palaiohora. According to a local mayor, among the migrants are many women and children, but the exact number of the people rescued will be determined after authorities finish counting and the ship is checked. Doctors are offering first aid, while water and food have been distributed. Authorities also said the migrants will be transferred to a closed swimming center in Akrotiri which has been used in the past to house refugees found on the islet of Gavdos, south of Crete.
