Greek national team’s technical director Giorgos Karagounis found the opportunity to meet up with Michel after his rendezvous with Sergio Markarian over the possibility of leading the Greeks to the 2016 Euro. The 51-year-old coach’s contract was recently terminated after a number of consecutive unfortunate results the Greek champions had brought about. Subsequently, he moved back to Madrid where he stated in an interview to local media that an offer from the Greek national team would be one he would highly consider. Michel’s departure created an internet upraise from the fans towards Olympiakos owner Vaggelis Marinakis. It brought back memories of when the club was lead by billionaire Sokratis Kokkalis who used to lay off his employees based on his followers’ suggestions. His knowledge of Greek football in association with the broad support from the fans have made him a perfect candidate. Giorgos Karagounis will return to Greece by the end of the week and in a meeting with the Greek football Federation director´s board will decide which of all solutions will be the most appropriate one.
