Main opposition SYRIZA leads ruling New Democracy (ND) with 4.95 percentage points, according to an opinion poll conducted by GPO for private TV MEGA. According to the poll, SYRIZA leads with 28 percent followed by ND with 23.1 percent, , the Communist Party (KKE) with 5.5 percent, PASOK with 5.1 percent, TO POTAMI with 6 percent, Golden Dawn with 5 percent, Independent Greeks with 2.7 percent, ANTARSYA with 1.3 percent and LAOS with 1.3 percent. The undecided voters reached 15.3 percent of the sample. To the question who is most suitable for prime minister, current Prime Minister Antonis Samaras is leading with 44.8 percent followed by SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras with 35.4 percent while 17 percent of the respondents said none of the above. The geographical coverage of the poll was nationwide and was conducted between 11-13 and 15 December 2014. At another poll conducted by Pulse for private TV Action 24, SYRIZA has a 3.5 percentage lead over New Democracy (ND). People polled throughout Greece from December 12 to 13 said that if national elections were held now, SYRIZA would get 27.5 pct and ND 24 (their respective rates were 27 and 22 in the previous poll by the same company). They are followed by Elia-PASOK with 7 pct (previous poll, 6.5 pct), Golden Dawn (Chryssi Avgi) with 6 pct (6 pct), To Potami with 5.5 pct (6 pct), the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) with 5 pct (5.5 pct) and Independent Greeks (ANEL) with 3.5 pct (3.5 pct). Another 6 pct selected “Other” (6 pct), 7.5 pct (8 pct) were Blank/Void/Abstain and another 8 pct (9.5 pct) of those polled were Undecided/No answer. Asked which of the two party leaders they considered was better for prime minister, 35 pct chose ND leader and Prime Minister Antonis Samaras and 28 pct chose SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras. Another 35 pct said “Neither” and 2 pct was “No answer.” The gap between main opposition Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) and the senior coalition partner New Democracy (ND) narrowed said a new nationwide poll conducted by Interview on behalf of Vergina TV. In the poll presented by the station, SYRIZA leads by 2.7 pct against ND in the vote intent. Asked which party they would vote for if elections were held this Sunday, SYRIZA received 27.9 pct, followed by ND with 25.2 pct, Pasok got 5.1 pct, the Communist Party of Greece (ΚΚΕ) got 5.0 pct, Golden Dawn (Chryssi Avghi) 4.8 pct, To Potami 4.2 pct, Independent Greeks (ANEL) 1.8 pct and the Democratic Left (DIMAR) 0.9 pct. Asked who could best negotiate with Greece ’s international lenders, 40 pct chose the current Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, followed by SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras with 25 pct.Similarly, 42 pct said Samaras would make the best prime minister, versus 29 pct for Tsipras. In the same poll, 58 pct of the respondents said they prefer the current parliament to elect a new president, 38 pct said they want early elections, while 72 pct approve of the current presidential candidate, Stavros Dimas.
