Make a wish happen for a Greek child

by  Andy Carling There is no doubt that those feeling the worst of austerity in Greece are the children. Nobody thinks they are responsible for the troubles the country has been through, but this is no consolation, especially to those kids with serious illness, where medical costs have increased as incomes have fallen. Brussels' Greek community has worked together over the last years to raise funds and support for those in direst need in their home nation and this is continuing. A group of Greek foodies, A Discovering Network  and the Make A Wish Greece foundation have teamed up to help raise funds to give 7 years old Armando, who is suffering from a serious illness and wishes to visit Santa Claus at the Oneiroupoli (Dreamland), in Drama city in the north of the country. There are several events, involving Greek schools in Belgium, but on the 14th December, people are invited to the Greek restaurant Strofilia, Rue du Marché aux Porcs 11 -13, 1000 Brussels. Starting at 3pm, a €10 ticket gives you entry to the event, including a bazaar of Greek products and a 'cook with us' from three of the finest Greek chefs. Add in some DJs in a Christmas mood and a great afternoon and evening is certain. The real reward for all those going along is knowing that they're helping at least a few children have a real treat back home.
