Greek Police Officers Protest Outside Greek Parliament
Earlier today, Greek Police officers participated in a rally protest that ended up outside the Greek Parliament. The Greek police officers protested against the plan concerning the restructuring of Hellenic Police. According to the Panhellenic Association of police officers (POASY), the new plan of the Ministry of Public Order and Citizen Protection on the Hellenic Police’s reconstruction is “a careless bill which by law suspends all police directories that is the core of Hellenic Police.” In particular, POASY in its official announcement criticizes the Ministry’s initiative of setting up a restructuring plan claiming that by putting a bunch of bills together no reform is achieved. The new bill that Nikos Dendias proposes, will bring only an alteration to the current administration form of the Greek Police, something that will not bring any changes to the force. This is a careless attempt of reforming the police under the pressure of Greece’s commitments dictated by the memorandums,” the announcement continues. In addition, the announcement underlined that they will not participate in any discussion with the Greek Minister of Public Order and Citizen protection, as the Ministry has already made up its mind without asking the force’s opinion or approval on the matter.
