Greece Ranks 12th in FIFA World Ranking

The Greek men’s national football team ranks 12th, according to the most recent World Ranking published by the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), the organization that ranks the national football teams of the member nations of FIFA based on their game results. According to the latest world rankings published for February 2014, the national teams in the first three places remain same, with Spain staying on top for the seventh consecutive year, followed by Germany in second place and Argentina in third place. Portugal advanced to the 4th place, thus downgrading Colombia to the 5th. The Swiss men’s national football team ranks in 6th place, followed by the countries Uruguay (7th), Italy (8th), Brazil (9th) and the Netherlands (10th). As for Greece’s competing teams in the 2014 FIFA World Cup, apart for Colombia, Côte d’Ivoire was bumped down six places, thus landing in 23rd, while Japan also dropped 2 spots, now ranking 50th. The FIFA World Ranking was introduced in December 1992 and initially held the scoreboard for the teams of the countries Argentina, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands. These countries, having scored the most victories, hold the top ranking positions today, with Brazil having spent the longest time in first.
