Evacuation orders have been issued for dozens of villages across mainland Greece following major wildfires. More than one thousand residents have been forced to flee by land or sea to the harbour on the island of Evia where they are waiting to be taken to safety. Shifting winds have caused the blazes to repeatedly change direction which continues to threaten areas which narrowly escaped destruction earlier this week.
