Nearly 1.5 million Covid-19 cases have been reported in Iraq since the start of the pandemic, including more than 17,000 deaths, overwhelming hospitals crippled by decades of conflict and corruption. 6.24pm BST International human rights organisation AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL has accused GREECE’S police force of using the pandemic as an excuse to impose blanket bans on protests and apply excessive force to crush peaceful demonstrations, reports Reuters. Street protests are common in Greece, and several have taken place in recent months on issues ranging from a new labour law to Israeli attacks on Gaza, or a hunger strike by a far-left militant political gunman.
