Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias participated today in the online event of “The Hellenic Initiative Canada,” representing the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. In his welcome address, the Minister praised the Hellenic diaspora’s role in supporting Greece’s efforts. He also highlighted Greece's positive role and influence in its wider region, from the Balkans to the Eastern Mediterranean, the Black Sea, the Middle East and Africa – a role recognized by regional as well as global players. This is due not only to Greece’s geopolitical importance, but also to its commitment to International Law and the principles of the UN Charter. Referring to the celebration of the bicentennial of the beginning of the Greek War of Independence, the Minister congratulated the Greek Canadian community on the successful hosting, in collaboration with the Greek diplomatic missions, of major events, including the lighting of many cities, as well as Niagara Falls, in the colors of the Greek flag.
