Greece welcomes the election of the President of the Presidency Council, Mohammad Menfi, its Members and the Prime Minister of Libya by the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum today, in Geneva.We are hopeful that the appointment of the Interim Presidency, until the elections set for 24 December, will contribute decisively to peace and stability in Libya and in the broader region.As an immediate neighbour of Libya, Greece looks forward to establishing contacts with the new Presidency as soon as it takes up its duties, with the aim of enhancing bilateral relations on the basis of international law.As a member state of the EU and NATO, our country is also prepared to offer assistance to Libya to contribute to the reconstruction and the consolidation of security.Finally, Greece stresses that the immediate departure of foreign troops from Libya is a necessary prerequisite for bringing peace and stability to the country.
