A state of emergency was declared in parliament at midday, with Level 4 restrictions – which the government had announced warned would to come into effect – to begin on Wednesday night at 11.59pm. 12.50am GMT The New Zealand Health Ministry announced that there were 50 new confirmed and probable coronavirus cases in the country. “There are 50 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 in New Zealand as at 9.30 am this morning,” it said in a statement.
