Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs Giorgos Katrougalos visits South Korea (19-23 June 2018)

Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs Giorgos Katrougalos completed his visit to South Korea, where he headed a government team and business mission. Following the successful 3rd Meeting of the Joint Interministerial Committee, both sides ascertained that new prospects for cooperation between the two countries are opening up in the sectors of shipping, tourism, agri-food and energy. Representing Greece on the Joint Interministerial Committee were the Secretaries General of the Ministries of Shipping and Island Policy, Dionysis Temponeras; Digital Policy, Stelios Rallis; Tourism, Evridiki Kourneta; and Media, Lefteris Kretsos; along with officials from co-competent ministries. Discussion focused on bilateral cooperation and investments in the sectors of shipping, tourism, agri-food, energy, culture, and research and technology. Mr. Katrougalos met with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cho Hyun, and the Deputy Minister for Industry and Innovative Entrepreneurship, Moon Sung-wook, who is responsible for the shipbuilding sector, and with whom issues concerning Greek shipping equipment companies were discussed. He also co-opened the Korea Importers Association (KOIMA) Import Goods Fair, in which Greek companies participated. Mr. Katrougalos also attended a Korean War commemoration event hosted by Veterans Affairs Minister, Pi Woo-jin, and attended by Korean Prime Minister, Lee Nak-yeon, and met with the President of Hankuk University, Kim In-chul, and professors in the Hellenic studies department, delivering a lecture on the future of Europe. Finally, he laid a wreath at the memorial to the fallen soldiers of the Korean War, met with Metropolitan Ambrosios of Korea and representatives of the Greek Community, and co-chaired a meeting of the World Conference of Constitutional Law, in Seoul.
