We unequivocally condemn the heinous and ungodly terrorist attack that took place yesterday morning at the Coptic Church of Saint Mina, in the Helwan district of Cairo. This attack – the organizers and perpetrators of which did not even respect the sacredness of the Christmas season – is unfortunately one of a series of similar attacks on religious communities suffering the disastrous repercussions of terrorism and religious bigotry in the wider region of the Middle East and North Africa. We express our undivided support for and solidarity with the friendly people of Egypt, the sincere condolences of the Greek people and the Greek government to the Egyptian government and the families of the victims, and our wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured.
