Traffic Resumes at Kulata Crossing on Bulgaria’s Border with Greece

Traffic has resumed at Kulata-Promachonas crossing on Bulgaria’s border with Greece, bTV reported on Sunday. Cargo vehicles and passenger cars have started moving in both directions at the busiest checkpoint on the border after 11 a.m. The Greek border authorities have advised that the blockade was lifted permamently but their Bulgarian counterparts have received information that the border crossing will be closed again at 5 p.m., according to bTV. Kulata-Promachonas, where a queue of trucks as long as 30 kilometres was said to have formed over the past few days on the Greek side of the border, remained closed for cargo vehicles for nearly 24 hours by Greek farmers protesting at pension cuts planned by the Greek government. The queue of trucks on the Bulgarian side of the border was estimated as about 10 kilometres long on Saturday. Protesting Greek farmers kept staying on their side of the border with tractors parked alongside the road leading to the border crossing, bTV said.
