The scheduled trip of Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis to the United States and his alleged meeting with President Barack Obama has prompted Wall Street Journal international finance writer Ian Talley to comment satirically that the Greek official is going to the White House for ouzo. According to an official statement issued by the Greek Finance Ministry on Tuesday, “On Thursday, April 16, 2015, at 4:15 pm (local time) Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis will attend a reception at the White House to celebrate our National Independence, where he will have a private meeting with U.S. President Barack Obama.” However, according to a Bloomberg report, a U.S. official said that there is no scheduled meeting between the U.S. President and the Greek Finance Minister. Talley cited Greek Embassy sources who said that there will be no meeting between Varoufakis and Obama.
