American Under Secretary of the Treasury for International Affairs Nathan Sheets asked Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis that Greece must “fully commit” to negotiations with creditors so that further financial aid is released to the country. Mr. Varoufakis met with the U.S. official during his two-day stay in Washington where he had a meeting with International Monetary Fund Managing Director Christine Lagarde. The Greek minister presented the Greek government proposals regarding the negotiations to Mr. Sheets and top economic and national security adviser Caroline Atkinson. The Greek official asked Mrs. Atkinson that the U.S. intervenes so there is no friction in negotiations between Greece and international creditors. Mrs. Atkinson reiterated Mr. Sheets’ position that Greece had called for a quick conclusion in negotiations.
