An earthquake measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale hit the island of Kefalonia, Greece, just before 8 a.m. local time. There have been no reports of damage or injuries. In January 2014, a series of strong earthquakes on the island of Kefalonia damaged hundreds of homes and injured more than a dozen people. Earthquakes have historically caused widespread damage across central and southern Greece, Cyprus, Sicily and other neighboring regions.
