Washington Concerned Over Greece-Europe Negotiations Deadlock

Washington has expressed concern over the impasse in the negotiations between Greece and Europe, and Germany in particular. White House officials consider that the deadlock in negotiations is posing a threat on the international economy. Caroline Atkinson, international economic aide to U.S. President Barack Obama, communicated with Greek Vice President Yiannis Dragasakis and asked that Greece respects the Brussels agreements and expedite negotiations until a final agreement is reached. According to Greek reports coming from Washington, Dragasakis assured the U.S. official that Athens is doing everything possible to implement what was agreed on February and stressed that a particular country, meaning Germany, attempts to cancel the agreement and impose its own positions, something not accepted by the Greek government. The correspondent of Mega television in Washington said that the White House has communicated with high-level European Union officials and the German government and asked that negotiations between Greece and Europe are expedited. On Tuesday, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland is meeting with Greek Foreign Affairs Minister Nikos Kotzias in Athens where they will also discuss Greek economy issues.
