Indiegogo is well-known crowdfunding website that currently hosts an independent Greek film entitled “Maxilari” (“Pillow”), the directorial debut of young Greek creator Konstantinos Kakogiannis. The film was first screened in Greece at Athens International Film Festival. Its production team is currently trying to release the film worldwide through the crowdfunding program offered by Indiegogo. The film’s storyline revolves around three friends who decide to go camping far away from civilization. They are trying to forget, to dream and have a good time. They discuss about conformism and culture, politics, violence and the human nature, seeking answers to eternal questions: what are we? What is our destiny as individuals and as part of a group? At the same time, their attempts to escape from civilization are self-sabotaged. Each of them carries his own “pillow” while the arrival of three women only makes the situation more complicated. Criticism towards the dominant culture takes the form of criticism towards an alternative culture. In his directorial debut, the film’s creator is looking at a certain ideology as a convenient “pillow” that we can push against anything that is suffocating us, regardless of our ability or desire to avoid it.
