Three men were killed during a mortar firing exercise at a range in Volos, central Greece earlier today. According to sources, two of the men were professional soldiers and the third was a draftee. A second lieutenant was also injured in the incident, which occurred at the Glafyra firing range. Reports thus far have attributed the deaths to misfires, though the exact causes of the tragedy remain unclear. Defense Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos ordered Deputy Defense Minister Yannis Lambropoulos and Army Chief of Staff General Christos Manolas to rush to the area by helicopter to investigate the deaths.
