In the first game of the much anticipated Indian Football Championship, Greek goalkeeper Alexandros Tzorvas not only kept a clean sheet but was also awarded the MVP prize as his team NorthEast United FC beat Kerala Blasters 1-0. The inaugural Indian Super League has attracted some of the world’s descending star players such as Alessandro Del Piero, David Trezeguet and Robert Pires. Greek internationals Kostas Katsouranis and Tzorvas followed the same path. The league will last roughly three months with a champions’ final to be determined in December. It’s a common truth that most players decided to move to India in favor of the financial benefits, as salaries for those three months of football are extremely worthy. Out of the 17 shots the Kerala Blasters made, 9 went on target of which Tzorvas saved all, in antithesis to David James, goalkeeper and coach of opponents Kerala Blasters, who was beaten by a well-known figure to the Greek league, ex-Aris Thessalonikis captain Sergio Koke. The Spaniard striker scored with a cracking volley in the 45th minute to hand North East United FC its first three points of the season.
