The Hellenic Initiative Raises Almost $2 Million for Programs to Benefit Greece

NEW YORK ? The Inaugural Banquet of The Hellenic Initiative that was held at the elegant domed structure with Grecian architectural touches at 583 Park Avenue in Manhattan on October 3 was unlike any other Greek-American event of recent memory. To begin with, the keynote speech of President Bill Clinton gave it unparalleled cachet. More importantly, $1.9 was raised in advance to assist Greece, but the event?s outstanding and enduring quality, however, was the spirit of solidarity with the people of Greece that prevailed, and the powerful feeling that with the help of those present and the rest of the Hellenic Diaspora, the homeland will overcome its current crisis and rise to new heights.
