LJUBLJANA, Slovenia (AP) — Croatia knocked out Greece from the European basketball championship Monday with a 92-88 victory in double overtime.
That result meant that two-time defending champion Spain clinched the last available quarterfinal spot from that group ahead of its game against Italy.
Bojan Bogdanovic made two free throws with 18 seconds left to secure Croatia's victory in a tight match, with neither team ever leading by more than seven.
Greece needed to beat Croatia and hope for Italy to beat Spain and Slovenia to defeat Finland to have any hope of advancing to the quarterfinals. Instead Croatia, which had already advanced, made sure of winning Group F.
Bogdanovic led all scorers with 22 points.
