ATHENS, Greece (AP) — Police in Greece say they have arrested a 51-year-old British man suspected of being involved in a cocaine smuggling ring that allegedly imported large quantities of the drug into Britain.
A statement late Tuesday said the man was arrested Sunday in the coastal suburb of Glyfada, near Athens, on a European arrest warrant issued in Britain. A 44-year-old Greek woman was also arrested.
Police did not identify the suspects, in accordance with Greek law that protects the anonymity of people accused of crimes but not convicted.
The statement said the British man went to "extensive precautions" to try and avoid arrest, with "frequent changes of address, telephones and cars."
