Inspector General Rakintzis Accuses Politicians For Breaking Their Own Rules

Greece’s Inspector General of Public Administration Leandros Rakintzis accused politicians for adopting rules that they, themselves, break. Speaking to media, Rakintzis reported the case of seven shops in the region of Schinias. The shops have been illegally built on the seashore and should be demolished by law. However, an amendment was passed delaying their demolition for several months. Furthermore, referring to sending teachers to schools in outlying regions, the Inspector General said that some school principals deliberately form small classes, less than the 25 students per class rule, thus requiring more teachers to meet the instructional hours. “So we fought unemployment but raised the cost, and funds have run out,” Rakintzis said, adding that it is a typical example of resources mismanagement which could be used for development. He further added that while there are some schools with not enough teachers, in other units the number of teachers exceeds the number of students.
