Meeting with representatives of business-sector organizations on the internationalization of the Greek economy

The ministries, involved public agencies and representatives of the private sector need to coordinate their actions in order to promote the internationalization of the Greek economy, Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs Giorgos Katrougalos stressed at the 3rd meeting of the Synergy Committee for Economic Diplomacy, which took place today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with the participation of representatives of the public and private sectors. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Katrougalos added, is already working with the Ministry of Economy and Development and the Ministry of Rural Development to coordinate with private-sector organizations on a full and comprehensive presence of Greek products on the international market. Internationalization supported the Greek economy during the years of the crisis, but we need a new productive model aimed at bolstering exports and the presence of Greek enterprises in new markets, Mr. Katrougalos highlighted. The Secretary General for International Economic Relations, Ioannis Brachos, announced that, in September, a comprehensive proposal will be made to the interministerial committee on the internationalization of the Greek economy, and that this proposal will take into account the recommendations of the private-sector organizations. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Rural Development, Enterprise Greece, the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises (SEV), the Greek International Business Association (SEVE), the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), the Panhellenic Exporters Association (PEA), the Federation of Hellenic Food Industries (SEVT), the Hellenic Confederation of Professionals, Craftsmen Merchants (GSEVEE), the Greek Livestock Association (SEK), the Hellenic Association of Ship Suppliers (PSEPE), the Central Union of Chambers, and officials from the competent directorates of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

How to make the perfect spanakopita

Which of the many versions of this moreish spinach and feta pie is best? Spanakopita, or spinach pie, is a Greek classic: sweet, earthy leaves and salty cheese encased in layer of shatteringly crisp pastry, it’s as good for breakfast as it is for lunch or dinner. Being delicious hot or cold, vegetarian-friendly and fairly cheap to put together, it’s my current top tip for a picnic. It also, of course, makes a nice lightish lunch or dinner, especially with a tomato salad on the side and, should you wish to make it in little triangles or cigars, rather than one large pie, is finger food of the highest order. In short, if you don’t have one already, you need a recipe for spanakopita in your life. Continue reading...

The Eleusinian Mysteries and Ufology: Two crackpot doctrinaire activities

Source: ufocon.blogspot.com - Tuesday, August 21, 2018 Copyright 2018, InterAmerica Inc . I haven’t received a book that my pal Bryan Sentes recommended about the early Greek mystery (cultish) rite known as The Eleusis Mystery that certain philosophers practiced [Plato, Aristotle, Iamblichus, and Proclus, among them]. But I have a slew of books that reference the practice and none indicate a favorable tone as the book Bryan recommended is said to do. The Eleusis rite, as obscure as it seems to be, reminds me of the hazy practice of UFO research and study, ufology, which is the haven of “mystagogy” practiced by hordes of inept researchers and ETH ideologues. A reference for those seeking a concise, objective account of The Eleusis Mysteries is  The Classical Tradition [Editors Grafton. Most, Settis, The Belnap Press of Harvard University Press, Cambridge, 2010, Page 613]. For those seeking an objective concise rendering of Ufological nonsense can find it in the blog writings of Zoam Chomsky [aka Aaron Sakulich] or French skeptic, cognitive psychologist Gilles Fernandez. The Eleusis Mystery rite has been taken apart by various scholars [Wind, 1958] and reactivated by others [Hadot, 2006], and my pal Bryan, a poet foremost, applies heated support for the mysteries as they involved, allegedly, psychedelics: ergot, an hallucinogenic fungus. Bryan would, I think, use Aristotle’s statement – “… those who enter initiations do not learn anything, but experience something” to promote the use All Related

The Silence of the Girls by Pat Barker review – a feminist Iliad

This brilliant retelling of Homer’s epic poem focuses on the cost of war to women through the story of Briseis, Achilles’ concubine In _The Iliad_, a poem about the terrible destruction caused by male aggression, the bodies and pretty faces of women are the objects through which men struggle with each other for status. The women are not entirely silent, and goddesses always have plenty to say, but mortal women speak primarily to lament. They grieve for their dead sons, dead fathers, dead husbands and dead protectors; for the city of Troy, soon to fall, and for their own freedom, taken by the victors of war. Andromache pleads with her Trojan husband Hector not to leave her and their infant son to go back to fight Achilles. She has already endured the sack of her home city by Achilles, and seen the slaughter of her father and seven brothers, and the enslavement of her mother. If Hector dies, their child will be hurled from the city walls, Troy will fall and Andromache will be made the concubine of the son of her husband’s killer. Hector knows this, but he insists that his own need to avoid social humiliation as a battle-shirker trumps it all: “I would be ashamed before the Trojan men and women,” he says. He hopes only to be dead before he has to hear her screams. Pat Barker’s brilliant new novelistic retelling of _The_ _Iliad_ puts the experience of women like Andromache at the heart of the story: the women who survive in slavery when men destroy their cities and kill their fathers, brothers and children. The central character is Briseis, the woman awarded to Achilles, the greatest Greek fighter, after his army sacks one of the towns neighbouring Troy. Agamemnon, the most powerful, although not the bravest, of the Greek warriors – a character whose downright nastiness comes across beautifully in Barker’s telling – has lost his own most recent female acquisition and seizes Briseis from Achilles. Achilles’ vengeful rage against Agamemnon and his own comrades, and the subsequent vast death toll of the Greeks and Trojans, is the central theme of _The Iliad._ Continue reading...
