The Cyber Crime Unit of the Greek Police cracked down a child pornography ring in Greece after receiving complaints by a 12-year-old girl. The perpetrators acted through Facebook. Investigation began after the girl filed a complaint stating that people she didn’t know had contacted her through Facebook, under the pretext that they would offer her work as a model. The perpetrators initially asked the girl to give them personal information and then asked her to make a Skype video call in order to see her and tell her if she is suitable for the job. A few days later, they told the girl she was hired and asked her to pose for indecent pictures. When the girl reacted, they started threatening her and her family, telling her that she would face penal sanctions if she didn’t obey to their commands. To crack the case, qualified personnel of the Cyber Crime Unit carried out a detailed digital analysis. The investigation identified the IP addresses of the perpetrators in Pakistan and the Philippines. According to information, the child pornography ring has managed to trap 10 Greek children, including the 12-year-old from northern Greece whose parents filed the complaint. Police is investigating the possibility of the ring convincing the 10 underaged girls to take their clothes off on Skype and take indecent pictures, while at the same time, pedophiles on the other side of the world have paid a large amount of money in order to see them online. According to the same information, some Greek-Americans are part of the group that ordered the child pornography ring to find underaged Greek girls.
