Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Markos Bolaris, received Metropolitan Athenagoras of Mexico today.Overall, the meeting focused on the prospects of Orthodoxy in Central America, as well as the missionary activity of the Metropolis of Mexico, while emphasis was placed on founding and operating an Orthodox Theological School in Havana, Cuba, in a building donated to the Holy Metropolis by the Cuban Government for this purpose.Also raised was the issue of founding and operating the Greek Cultural Centre in Mexico City. His Eminence highlighted the importance of Greek State scholarships granted to students from Columbia, Venezuela, and Panama for passing on Greek culture and fostering friendly relations between the Greek people and the peoples of Central America. He suggested, moreover, that the Greek side should explore the possibility of creating a Greek Naval Academy in Cuba.
