Bulgarian President to Host SEECP Summit

Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev will host on Wednesday a summit of the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP). The high-level forum, which will mark the 20th anniversary of SEECP, will be held at Sofia Tech Park, the first science and technology park in Bulgaria. It will mark the end of the Bulgarian chairmanship of SEECP, which lasted between July 2015 and June 2016. Croatia will assume the chairmanship from Bulgaria. The high-level meeting in Sofia will be attended by heads of state or government and foreign ministers of the participating states - Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Greece, Kosovo, Moldova, Macedonia, Romania, Slovenia, Serbia, Turkey, Croatia and Montenegro. Among the participants in the forum will be also the Secretary-General of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Lambeto Zannier, the Secretary General of the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) Goran Svilanovic and a representative of the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini. More than 180 journalists from ten countries have been accredited for participation in the summit. The participating states will adopt a declaration on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of SEECP, which will note the role of the process as key political format for sustainable partnership in Southeastern Europe and leading platform for European and Euro-Atlantic integration. The leaders from the region will exchange opinions on issues of regional connectivity, consolidation of democracy, security, migration, energy security and Euro-Atlantic integration. SEECP was established twenty years ago on Bulgaria's initiative with the adoption of the Declaration on good neighbourly relations, stability, security and cooperation in the Balkans, which was signed in Sofia in 1996. In the past two decades, SEECP has established itself as leading political format for security and stability in the region. There will be two plenary sessions and press conference of the so-called troika of the preceding, incumbent and next chairing countries – Albania, Bulgaria and Croatia. The Bulgarian president will unveil an exhibition “20 years of SEECP”. Throughout the day, Plevneliev is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with participants in the summit. On Tuesday, Bulgarian Foreign Minister Daniel Mitov hosted a meeting of the foreign ministers of the countries participating in SEECP.
