Tsipras Calls on Greeks to Reject Proposals of Creditors in Sunday Referendum

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras called on Greek citizens to reject the proposals of the international creditors for more austerity in return for rescue loans. Thus, Tsipras reaffirmed his stance for a "no" vote in the forthcoming bailout referendum on Sunday, daily Kathimerini reports. In a televised address to the nation on Friday, the Greek prime minister said that the upcoming referendum was not a vote on whether Greece will remain in the euro or not, as Tsipras supports the country's continued membership to the eurozone. He added that the IMF report released on Thursday, which says that Greece needs debt relief, fully justifies the position of the government that the country's debt is unsustainable. In his latest statement, Tsipras said that it was pointless to keep imposing harsh spending cuts on salaries and pensions just to continue servicing an unsustainable debt.On the last possible day of campaigning before the Sunday referendum, he urged Greek citizens to vote "no to ultimatums, divisions and fear".
