IMF’s Lagarde: Still a Lot of Work Before Greek Deal

Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Christine Lagarde said that there is still a lot of work to be done before Greece signs a deal with international creditors. Lagarde was interviewed on German television’s ARD on Thursday. She was asked about the progress of negotiations between Athens and the three lenders, the IMF, the European Central Bank and the European Commission. “We are all in the process of working towards a solution for Greece and I would not say that we already have reached substantial results,” Lagarde said. “Things have moved, but there is still a lot of work to do,” she added. She stated, however, that she believes Greece would fulfil its commitments to lenders. The Lagarde statements came in the aftermath of several statements from the Greek government saying that negotiations are at the finish line and Athens is close to an agreement.
