Attica vineyards have joined forces to form the non-profit company “Wines of Athens,” through which they will seek to promote local wine varieties and link them to Athens’ archaeological sites and attractions, through an organized system of “wine routes.” The Greek wineries will also aim to produce quality vintages and highlight the local Savvatiano grape that grows in the Attica region. The wineries will be open to visitors and allow wine tasting, while also offer visitors an opportunity to buy wines on the spot. The initiative includes some of the oldest wine makers in the vicinity of Greece ‘s capital, including the Kokotou Estate, Anastasia Fragou Wineries, Markou Vineyards, Papagiannakou Wineries and Mylona Microwinery.
