Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Dendias participated, via video recorded message, in the online International Donors’ Conference in Solidarity with Venezuelan Refugees and Migrants, hosted by Canada, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) on Thursday, June 17 2021. In his intervention, the Minister referred to the deterioration of the political, economic and social situation in Venezuela, which has amounted to the greatest humanitarian crisis Latin American region has ever experienced, leading to a massive migration of Venezuelans to neighbouring countries. He pointed out that Greece is also a country that has faced the complex challenge of vast migration flows. Mr. Dendias concluded by stressing the need for solidarity and coordinated assistance to refugees and migrants from Venezuela, as well as the importance of addressing the root causes of the crisis in order to achieve a lasting political solution.
