Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, M. Bolaris, meets with his Egyptian counterpart, Mahmoud Talaat (Cairo, 13 January 2019)

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Markos Bolaris visited the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and had a meeting with the Egyptian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Mahmoud Talaat. Issues were discussed, related to existing agreements between the two countries on culture, where the excellent level of collaboration on a number of issues was confirmed. A special reference was made to the success of the most recent “Cavafia” in the autumn of 2017, and for the preparation of the next “Cavafia”. Mr Bolaris stressed the need to further expand, at the initiative of the governments, the cooperation which will be able to highlight the excellent climate that exists between the two countries and their people. As a first step, he proposed organising an International Conference on an academic level, with synergies from Egyptian and Greek universities, with participation on the part of distinguished scientists, not only from Greece and Egypt, but also from Europe, the Arab world, America, and other countries. Its agenda will aim at showcasing the interaction of cultures and philosophy containing the Greek spirit with the Arab world. This proposal was accepted by Mr. Talaat. The Greek Deputy Minister referred to the initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which pertains to assimilation, contact, and collaboration among religions and dogmas, a process which began over the last four months in Athens and is expected to culminate in the near future with a two-day conference organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Based on the foregoing, Mr Bolaris mentioned that during his next planned visit to Egypt, he shall visit Al-Azhar University and their spiritual leader, Sheikh Ahmed Al Tayeb.
