Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Centre for Public Administration and Local Government to host a conference on the Future of Europe (Athens, 5 July 2018)

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with the National Centre for Public Administration and Local Government (EKDDA) and under the auspices of the President of the Republic, Prokopis Pavlopoulos, is holding a conference on the Future of Europe, entitled “The European Union in the spotlight: Consultation on Europe and Public Administration.”The conference will be opened by the President of the Republic. The President of Parliament, Nikos Voutsis, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Kotzias, Administrative Reconstruction Minister Olga Gerovasili, Minister of State Nikos Vernardakis, the head of the European Commission representation in Greece, Giorgos Markopouliotis, EKDDA President Ifigeneia Kamtsidou, and the Director of the EKDDA Institute of Training, Anna Kontoni, have been invited to speak.Three separate sessions will then be held. The first, on ‘Public Administration and European Governance’, will be participated in by the Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs, Giorgos Katrougalos, the Austrian Ambassador to Greece, Andrea Ikic-Bohm, and professor of European Law Vasilis Chatzopoulos. Journalist Pavlos Tsimas will moderate this session. The second session, on ‘social dialogue for a citizens’ Europe’, will be participated in by the Foreign Ministry’s secretary general for International Economic Relations and Development Cooperation, Ioannis Brachos, the Justice Ministry’s Secretary General for Transparency and Human Rights, Maria Giannakaki, professor of Social Policy Ioannis Kouzis, and the scientific associate of Greece’s Economic and Social Committee, Afroditi Makrygianni, with journalist Christos Machairas moderating. The third session, on ‘The future of Europe: Challenges, prospects and Greece’s role’, will be participated in by professor of European Policy Kostas Lavdas, professor of the Theory and Institutions of the European Integration Dimitris Chrysochoou, associate professor of Economics and History of Economic Thought Nikos Theocharakis, and associate professor of Analysis of International and European Institutions Spyros Blavoukos, with journalist Nikol Leivadari moderating. During the conference, there will also be a presentation of the new website entitled “We’re talking about Europe” (www.oureurope.gov.gr) and the television spot, by the task-force coordinator, professor Giorgos Papageorgiou, and scientific associate Stergios Tsiafoulis.The conference will open tomorrow morning at 09:30 and conclude at 15:00, at the EKDDA’s Kosmas Psychopaidis Amphitheatre – 211 Peiraios St.Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs, Giorgos Katrougalos, was a speaker at a similar event held on Friday, 29 June, in Marseilles, with the participation of French MEP Daniel Cohn Bendit and the philosopher Jean Marc Ferry.
