The 1st Greece-Mozambique Business Forum was held today in Maputo, with the assistance of the Mozambique Chamber of Commerce and Industry and in cooperation with the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises and the Greek-African Chamber. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Terens Quick made the following remarks:“The very good diplomatic and political relations with Mozambique are being enhanced as of today, through the two countries’ cooperation in the business sector.It is impressive that some 70 B2B meetings have been scheduled between the representatives of Greek companies who have come to the Forum and local enterprises in important sectors such as solar energy, standardization of agricultural and stock-farming products, water resources, construction, pharmaceuticals, and the transfer of know-how in the very important sector of tourism.For the record, I should say that today’s business mission, which was organized in record time through the tireless efforts of our diplomatic services, began during my first visit here, last March, and following the meeting I had with Mozambique’s Minister of Foreign Affairs (who isn’t here today, unfortunately) and my meeting with the President of the Agency for the Promotion of Investments and Exports (APIEX). We promised them we would carry out a business mission at the soonest possible time, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs kept its word.I would also like to thank our honorary Consul, Gerasimos Marketos, one of the most important Greek entrepreneurs in Mozambique, who, despite the three-hour delay in our arrival from Maputo, managed to rearrange the whole programme, so that all the B2B meetings took place as scheduled.”Following the opening of the Business Forum in Maputo, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs T. Quick met with the President of the Agency for Promotion of Investments and Exports (APIEX), Lourenço Sambo. The high-ranking Mozambican government official asked Mr. Quick to convey to the Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Kotzias, Mozambican government’s gratitude for the immediate response to the request to initiate joint business ventures. He also said he believes Greece will play an important role, through these business activities, as Mozambique’s bridge to the European Union, adding that Mozambique’s Economy Minister is scheduling Greece as a stop on his spring-2018 tour of Southern European countries.
