Event on “Peer Learning in Achieving the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs” (Athens, 3.10.2017)

Greece will participate with a Voluntary National Report (VNR) in the UN High Level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development in 2018. The Directorate of Geographical Policy and Strategic Planning (Hellenic Aid) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is organizing an Event on “Peer Learning in Achieving the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs”, on Tuesday October 3rd 2017, 9.30 – 13.00 at the “Yiannos Kranidiotis” amphitheatre (1 Akadimias Str., 10671, Athens).Greece as other UN member states is committed to sustainable development and is presently considering how to best adopt and adapt the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to national priorities. During the Event, the General Secretariat of the Government will present the National Priorities while the Ministry of Environment and Energy will discuss the strong cross-cutting environmental dimension of the SDGs, taking also into account the fact that the selected SDGs for the in depth thematic review during the 2018 UN HLPF will be the environmental-related Goals (SDG 6 on water, SDG 7 on sustainable energy, SDG 11 on sustainable cities, SDG 12 on sustainable consumption and production and SDG 15 on terrestrial biodiversity).The aim of the event is to promote an exchange of best practices and lessons learned regarding VNR preparations. Representatives from Diplomatic Missions of EU countries the Mediterranean region (Belgium, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Morocco, the Netherlands, Slovenia, Turkey) that participated with a VNR in the UN HLPFs 2016 and 2017 will present their relevant experiences.
