Source: www.wnyc.org - Sunday, July 30, 2017 Take an hour-long musical tour of Mediterranean voices from Lebanon, Greece, southern Italy, Spain, Portugal, Algeria and Morocco. Hear flamenco singer Silvia Perez Cruz from the soundtrack to the contemporary silent film from Spain, Blancanieves. (The twist to this version of Snow White is that she is a female matador in 1920’s Spain.) Listen to Lebanese singer Yasmine Hamdan from the soundtrack to Jim Jarmusch’s film Only Lovers Left Alive , as well. There’s also music from Algerian singer/guitarist Souad Massi, then Portuguese Fado from from L'Arpeggiata, and traditional folk music from southern Italy. Plus, hear a musical meeting of flamenco and a Moroccan-based Andalusian orchestra, as well as music from Israeli-born Shlomit Levi & guitarist Rebbesoul. And more.
