The conference on Wednesday brings all the main players to the table – including representatives from Cyprus’ guarantor powers, Greece, Turkey and Britain – in what is being billed as an arena “for big and lasting decisions”. For all, it will amount to an historic effort to bridge chasms that have remained unbridgeable since 1974, the year that Turkey seized the island’s northern third in response to a coup aimed at uniting Cyprus with Greece.
