In its annual publishing of the best places to visit in Europe, Lonely Planet has placed the Peloponnese region of Greece in the top spot. The travel guide describes the region as “an affordable enclave of magnificent ancient sites like Olympia, Mycenae and Mystra.” This wide, leaf-shaped peninsula was originally called Morea, meaning mulberry leaf.
