Greeks are almost evenly split between a “Yes” and “No” vote in Sunday’s referendum, according to an opinion poll published on Friday. The poll was conducted between June 30 and July 2 for the Sunday edition of newspaper “Avghi.” Those intending to vote “No” were marginally ahead by 43%, while 42.5% intend to vote “Yes,” 9% are undecided, 3.5% say they will not vote, 1% will cast an invalid/blank vote and another 1% replied don’t know/won’t answer. Asked to predict which result will prevail, regardless of how they intend to vote themselves, 39% forecast a “No” win, 50% expected that “Yes” will win and 11% expressed no opinion. A 54% majority disagree with the decision to call a referendum, 42% agrees, 1% has no opinion and 2% said that it neither agrees nor disagrees. In terms of qualititative data, the research showed that 44% of men will vote “Yes” and 44% will vote “No” while 41% of women will vote “Yes” and 42% will vote “No.” The “No” vote predominates among the 18-24 age group, with 71% opting for “No” and 20% opting for “Yes,” while support for “No” drops to 59% among the 25-34 age group, with 26% intending to vote “Yes.” In the 35-44 age group, 34% support “Yes” and 53% support “No” and in the 45-54 age group support for “No” is at 48% and for “Yes” at 36%. For those aged 55-64, “Yes” predominates at 47%, compared with 44% for “No” while for those over 65, support for “No” drops to 26% and “Yes” rises to 56%. Broken down by area, the split between the Yes-No votes was 45-40 in Athens, 39-44 in Thessaloniki and 42-45 in the rest of Greece. (source: ana-mpa)
